PriceSmart, whose longstanding philosophy of keeping costs low and transferring savings to members, launched its new Platinum Membership option with an event at its Oranjestad club today, August 6.

With a Platinum Membership, primary Diamond and Business members will earn 2% cashback on the majority of the purchases made by all members in their membership account*. Aruba is the 5th country in the English-speaking Caribbean and the 9th in the company to introduce the Platinum Membership.

Speaking at the launch, Rachelle Winterdal Membership Manager for Aruba, emphasized PriceSmart’s ongoing commitment to increasing value to members and rewarding their loyalty through new and innovative initiatives and programs. PriceSmart Platinum Membership joins existing loyalty programs such as PriceSmart Travel, an exclusive webpage service that offers members discounts of up to 65% at over 270,000 hotel rooms worldwide, with additional access to car rentals, group travel, flights, ground transportation, group travel and more at www.pricesmart.travel

The Platinum Diamond Membership or Platinum Business Membership has an annual fee of $75 USD + tax and persons can sign up at PriceSmart Aruba club from August 6. Existing members also have the option to upgrade their membership. The cost to upgrade will be prorated depending on the expiration date of the current membership, but at a maximum upgrade fee of $40 USD + tax for a Platinum Diamond and Business Membership upgrade.

PriceSmart stays true to its “low-cost” philosophy through the use of simple facilities, original packaging with no-frills merchandising, own-brand products, and cost reduction in order to pass savings onto to its members. This new membership program therefore represents a direct benefit for members who, depending on the volume of their purchases, stand to earn an immediate benefit on their regular purchases for their homes and businesses.

PriceSmart’s philosophy includes giving back to the community through charitable initiatives by providing donations of basic PriceSmart merchandise ie: food, beverages and cleaning supplies to local homeless shelters, children’s homes as well as youth and non-profit organizations. This year 6 no-profit organizations have received an in-kind donation and 55 in-kind donations have been provided in Aruba since 2007. Also, in partnership with Procter and Gamble, PriceSmart has provided school supplies and books to two schools impacting 700 students in Aruba this year.
